Portrait of Gwen Shandroski

About · M.Sc., S-LP(C), R.P.

Thirty years in Toronto. Now in the County.

I worked with adults and adolescents in Toronto for 30 years before moving my practice to Prince Edward County in 2021. I see clients in person in Picton and online.

I trained in Expressive Arts Therapy and in Relational Psychotherapy at the Toronto Institute of Human Relations, where being a client and examining yourself was a core part of becoming a therapist.

How I learned this way

Make it first, then make sense of it.

In expressive arts training I learned to create something from how I was feeling. Then, talking with my own relational psychotherapist, I could connect what I had made to my past or my current situation and make decisions. I work the same way with clients, combining the two.

Treatment approach

I use art, sandtray, writing and talking in sessions. My approach is client-centred, which means I follow your lead. You might begin with a concern, an image you made or feel drawn to, or something you notice in the moment.

I listen for what feels unresolved or ambivalent. By gently probing, feelings and memories come up, and often an unexplored part of yourself is revealed. Clients are often surprised by what they end up talking about.

I do not diagnose. It isn't my training.
